As we move into the third quarter of the year, many people are looking for trends in their business, particularly following the COVID-19 crisis. 2020 already is a revolutionary year for corporate event management and although a lot remains uncertain.

Check out these top 5 trends in event technology in 2020 and later, as event planners continue to navigate a new virtual, hybrid and in-person events.

Live Streaming

Live streaming is the ability to pull multiple media types such as video or audio pictures and load them live to the internet simultaneously, so that people can watch it as a live stream of content.

What really gives this technology a robust nature. It has the ability to actually watch other types of content playing at the same time whether it's a PowerPoint or perhaps some pictures strolling around or hearing some audio, but it's really a robust system. It's proven technology that's been around for 10 plus years now.

Facial Recognition Technology

This technology registers the facial features of those who attend the event by uploading photos and then scans the faces during the registration process. And although it is not 100% accurate all the time, for some reasons it is still very useful.

Since contactless event inspections are probably a requirement for the next few years, this technology is critical. Participants can simply scan their face and be admitted as soon as the machine recognizes them (if they have approved face recognition during registration). For all those involved, the experience is safe and seamless. As we are so familiar with this technology, most participants know it already and can expect it at any individual event.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality

Virtual reality
It is a fully immersive computer simulated environment that gives a user the feeling of being in that environment instead of the one they’re actually in. A lot of video games have already developed the technology to put the user in an interactive world in the driver’s seat of a car, or in the battlefield in a first-person shooter, or even in your own little town. However, your perception of reality is not altered. You are simply a spectator overseeing the events that are happening in the world.

Augmented reality
It is when digital information is overlaid onto the actual physical world. Your camera detects a target image, and can figure out how close or far, and at what angle, the target image is from the camera using sensors. It then projects digital information onto that target image.

Enhanced Attendee Experience

An event is a matter of experience. And even though in-person events are currently on hold, you can still create digital or hybrid versions that your audience will find value in. There are two main ways to enhance attendee's online experience:

Personalize communication. Human connection is more important than ever. Which is why the recognition of your audience as individuals can make a significant impact on them. You can send personalized push notifications, emails, and text to each attendee, recommending sessions that they may like. You can also create a "plan your own" experience where the attendees can choose their own experience.

Encourage play through gamification. How do you encourage people to engage with content in meaningful ways? You turn it into a game, of course. Gamification is the process of creating content-based game-like systems, whether by creating teams, rewarding tasks, or tracking completion. And while some may have doubts as to how effective such a simple idea might be, it works just as well for adult learners as it does in high school. In fact, 80% of learners say that they would be more productive if their work were more game-like.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is a broad area of computer science that makes machine seem like they have human intelligence. The goal of AI is to mimic the human brain and create systems that can function intelligently and independently.

When it comes to AI a robot is nothing more than a shell concealing what’s actually used to power the technology AI can manifest itself in many different ways.

Event Technology in the Future

Planning for the next event may at first seem a little daunting, as we have all experienced huge changes recently. I know that you can still connect to your audience on a real, authentic level through digital and hybrid events. Know that each event, conference and experience will be different and will require different technological features, so maintain all of these trends in 2020 and beyond.
